Rubber firms up on supply crunch

Our Correspondent

KOTTAYAM: Rubber prices further firmed up on supply crunch. Tapping in almost all the plantations has been suspended owing to high day temperature.

Manufacturers kept away from the market in a bid to arrest the runaway price but there was no let up in rubber traders searching for supply. Many of them anticipate a further rise in prices in the near future as co-operative organisations are mopping up graded rubber at the minimum support price for export.

Sheet rubber RSS 4 further improved to Rs 32.50 per kg from Rs 31.25 on Thursday, ungraded rubber to Rs 28.50 from Rs 28.25, block rubber ISNR-20 to Rs 30 from Rs 29.25 and RSS-5 to Rs 29.75 from Rs 29.25 per kg. Latex concentrate remained steady at Rs 28 per kg.
