VPT achieves traffic target

Our Bureau

VISAKHAPATNAM, March 22

THE Visakhapatnam Port Trust (VPT) has achieved the target for the current financial year by handling 42.505 million tonnes of traffic as against the target of 42.5 m.t.

The traffic in respect of POL, thermal coal and lamp coke has already exceeded the target. However, there is a marginal shortfall in iron ore due to global economic recession and in fertilisers and raw materials due to less nomination of vessels.

The port has handled 17.845 m.t. of POL, exceeding the target of 155 m.t, 3.807 m.t. of thermal coal (3.6 m.t.) and 5.856 m.t. of coking coal and lamp coke (5.2 m.t.). The port is expected to handle 44.5-m.t. traffic by the end of the current fiscal.
