E-Commerce & E-Business More digital signature certifiers soon Our Bureau
NEW DELHI, March 22 THE Government is evaluating applications from two more organisations to become Digital Signature Certifying Authorities (CAs), according to Mr K.N. Gupta, Controller of CAs. ``Two applications are currently pending with us from the Institute for Development and Research in Banking Technology (IDRBT) and National Informatics Centre (NIC),'' Mr Gupta told Business Line. He said auditing of the facilities created by IDRBT and NIC were on. ``Within a month we are likely to issue the licences,'' Mr Gupta said. The country's first CA, SafeScrypt, was awarded the licence last month. When contacted, a company official said SafeScrypt would soon start issuing digital signatures to its clients. Mr Gupta said over 200 parties had evinced interest when the authority invited initial applications in March this year. ``Since there is no cap in the number of CAs, I expect more certifying authorities to come up,'' he added. A panel of 16 auditors, including KPMG, Arthur Anderson, PricewaterhouseCoopers, TCS and Tata Infotech, have been appointed to audit the infrastructure of the proposed CAs.
