Govt to extend UK-funded civic project

HYDERABAD, March 22
THE Andhra Pradesh Government is seeking higher allocation from the Department for International Development (DFID), UK, and has proposed to the Central Government to extend the UK-funded Rs.745-crore project for 10 more towns.
The DFID-funded Andhra Pradesh Urban Services for the Poor (APUSP) project has been taken up as an innovative partnership initiative between the State Government and the Government of United Kingdom.
The project, which is underway in 32 class I towns, is planned to be extended to 10 more municipalities, according to the State Minister for Municipal Administration and Urban Development, Mr N. Mohd.Farooq.
This project, to be implemented over a six-year time-frame, is aimed at supporting the poor in these class I towns to provide improved access to more appropriate and sustainable services in a better environment, Mr Farooq said.
Under the project, 71 per cent of the assistance is being extended by the DFID in the form of financial aid and 29 per cent as technical assistance.
