`AP most suited for bio-tech investments'

HYDERABAD, March 22

THE Andhra Pradesh Government is creating world-class infrastructure facilities at the Genome Valley here for the establishment of biotechnology units, according to the State Secretary for Industries and Commerce, Mr B. P. Acharya.

Addressing a national convention on "India at the threshold - Emerging opportunities in biotechnology'', Mr Acharya said that the Genome Valley comprised a biotechnology park, ICICI Knowledge Park and Institute of Life Sciences.

The State Government was making efforts to create a vibrant environment for biotechnology organisations, he said.

With seven agro-climatic zones, 19 major food and commercial crops and more than 500 species of trees, Mr Acharya said that Andhra Pradesh was ideally suited for investments in biotechnology.

The State capital was already home to reputed organisations such as the Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology, Dr Reddy's Laboratories, Shanta Biotechnics and Bharat Biotech, he said.

The two-day national convention is being beld by APITCO Ltd.
