THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, Dec. 2

THE $45-million Network Systems & Technologies Ltd (NeST) group has brought down curtains on Hinshitsu Gekkan - the Japanese equivalent for process quality improvement month.

During the month, senior-level executives from most group companies and associates visited the NeST facility in Technopark and interacted with their counterparts.

Hinshitsu Gekkan is a familiar chore among Japanese corporate houses aimed at regular upgradation of quality of services, a NeST spokesman said.

It seeks to goad employees to aim for bigger targets, stick to near-zero defects in development and deliveries and increase the spirit of competitiveness.

The observance had special significance for NeST's Japanese clients, including Hitachi, Toshiba, Yamaha, NTT, PRI and DML Japan.

The valedictory session was inaugurated by Dr B.N. Suresh, Associated Director, Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre (VSSC).

Among those who attended were Mr R. Narayanan, Vice-President, Tata Consultancy Services, and Mr Rajiv Vasudevan, CEO, Technopark.

A group insurance scheme for NeST employees amounting to Rs 20 crore was announced during the function.

Hinshitsu Gekkan is expected to accelerate the company's efforts to further improve the quality standards and help it attain the coveted Six Sigma level (which ensures only 3.4 defects in one million operations or, an accuracy of 99.999997), the spokesman said.

Audience with Gates: As a token of recognition to the quality service offered internationally by the company, Mr N. Jehangir, Managing Director of NeST, was invited for a meeting with the visiting Microsoft chief, Mr Bill Gates, at Electronic City in Bangalore.

He was among the 80 CEOs to have been specially invited for the event.

The company will commission the NeST Call Centre, among the first in Kochi, in mid-December.

Being launched with 200 seats, the call centre will be expanded to 1500 seats in one year, the spokesman said.

NeST has also been selected for an award of excellence for research advancement in technology development instituted by the Union Ministry of Science and Technology.

The Prime Minister, Mr A.B. Vajpayee, will present the award at a function in New Delhi on December 9, the spokesman added.
