Performance Bajaj Auto November sales up 5.7 pc Our Bureau

MUMBAI, Dec. 2 BAJAJ Auto Ltd has reported a 5.7 per cent rise in its total sales of two-, three-wheelers for November 2002 to 1,28,367 units, as against 1,21,419 units of the previous corresponding period. This includes a 3.6 per cent increase in total 2-wheeler sales to 1,12,874 units (1,08,941 units in November 2001) with a 33.1 per cent rise in motorcycle sales to 77,732 units (58,415 units). Sales of three-wheelers rose by 24.2 per cent to 15,493 units (12,478 units). Exports for the period was up by 157.4 per cent to 8,149 units (3,166 units), an official statement said. For the April-November 2002 period, total two-, three-wheeler sales grew by 10.3 per cent to 9,83,427 units (8,91,366 units), two-wheeler sales alone rising by 8.7 per cent to 8,53,057 units (7,85,032 units). Motorcycle sales touched 5,73,340 units (3,98,484 units), a rise of 43.9 per cent, while three-wheelers moved up by 22.6 per cent to 1,30,370 units (1,06,334 units). According to the statement, BAL has clocked cumulative sales of 20 million units since the company's inception in 1960-61. "The first 10 million units took about 35 years where as the second 10 million has come in less than 8 years,'' it said. Its Pulsar motorcycle model sold over 18,000 units in November 2002. Commercial production of the all-new entry level motorcycle, `Byk', has commenced at BAL's Akurdi plant and the product is slated for launch in December 2002.
