PARLIAMENT has approved the Delhi Metro Railway Bill, with the Urban Development Minister, Mr Ananth Kumar, informing the Rajya Sabha that 35 cities have been identified for providing metro-type rapid mass urban transport system.

Replying to a question in Parliament on Monday, Mr Kumar said that talks in this connection have been going on with a number of State Governments.

He said that the metro rail concept was part of the urban transport system and the national urban transport policy would be announced next year.

The Bill seeks to provide for the operation, maintenance and regulation of the Delhi Metro Railway.
