KOLKATA, Dec. 30

INDIAN Oil Corporation (IOC) today launched two new branded petro-fuels in Kolkata, Durgapur and Siliguri. The branded petrol is called IOC Premium while the branded high speed diesel has been christened Diesel Super.

To begin with, the branded fuels will be retailed in 11 outlets in Kolkata, two outlets in Durgapur and six outlets in Siliguri. IOC has geared up its refineries to supply around 10,000 kilolitres of IOC Premium and 8,000 kilolitres of Diesel Super every month. IOC Premium will cost Rs 1.35 more per litre over the current petrol price even as the Diesel Super has been priced at 30 paise more than the current price of diesel.

According to the company, IOC Premium is 91-octane petrol with multi-functional additives. Besides improved engine performance, IOC Premium has an "anti-knocking effect'', thereby ensuring better mileage to new generation cars which have multi-point fuel injection systems. The Diesel Super, too, has been reinforced with multi-functional additives. It reduces emission and ensures fuel efficiency, better mileage and engine performance.

Speaking to newspersons after the formal launch of the two products here today, company officials reiterated plans to enter the market in Mauritius. An investment of Rs 80 crore would be made in the Mauritian venture with refined products being shipped from India from next year.

The officials also said that IOC had taken up a project to upgrade around 200 retail fuel outlets in Sri Lanka as well.
