Rs 138-cr orders at industrial trade fair

KOLKATA, Dec. 30

THE 10-day 16th Industrial India Trade Fair formally ended here on Monday with a total direct sales of about Rs 71 crore. There were firm business orders for about Rs 138 crore generated by the `Buyers-Sellers' meet, according to the fair organisation committee chairman, Mr S.K. Ghosh.

The fair, organised jointly by the Bengal National Chamber of Commerce and Industry, West Bengal Government and India Trade Promotion Organisation, was aimed at promoting industry, trade and business in the eastern region. The People's Republic of Bangladesh participated in the fair in a big way as the partner-country.

Altogether 700 exhibitors from various States and also from neighbouring countries participated with a pledge to improve business co-operation among the South-East Asian countries. Incidentally, business firms from Turkey and Japan participated for the first time, along with the regular participants like Nepal, Bhutan, Pakistan and Sri Lanka.
