US-Iraq war

This is with reference to "Oil politics and tensions in West Asia" (Business Line, February 18). The article has described the politico-economic equations in the West Asian region. There is another peculiar feature that distinguishes West Asia from the rest of the world. For selfish economic gains, the domestic ruling establishments and the external political forces of the western world have ensured that the general masses are cloistered behind the walls of ignorance and not exposed to modern ideas. With the war clouds looming large in the region, a war can worsen the anti-west sentiments of the fundamentalist Islamic groups in the region.

The ramifications of such a war will not be limited to the West Asian region, and people in other countries will also pay the price as their governments will be more interested in sustaining the national economies than implementing development schemes.
