New Products & Services Exide plans new export strategy for `Eternity' Our Bureau
KOLKATA, March 6 EXIDE Industries Ltd, which has just launched the world's first "warranted for life" car battery - - Eternity - - is exploring the possibility of exporting the new product to other tropical countries. Mr S. Chand, Director-automotive, told Business Line that it has begun talks with its Singapore-based associate company - - Chloride Batteries South East Asia Ltd (CBSEA Ltd) - - for marketing the unique product in the South-East Asian region and Australia. Exports of the new battery would require strong servicing network in the target country as `Eternity' is packaged with replacement guarantees till the owner continues with the same car. Also, a prompt on-the-spot servicing facility is part of the marketing package of the new battery. "We cannot export this exclusively replacement market product as a stand-alone product but need to lay the service infrastructure locally. CBSEA is likely to build the infrastructure along with marketing of the new product in the region", Mr Chand observed. Submarine batteries, which are meant for defence use, may also prove a growth engine for the company in the near future. Recently, Exide bagged export orders for submarine batteries from Algeria. This relatively new product from the stable of Exide is a very high margin product. "We are exploring the possibility of exports of this product aggressively," Mr Chand added. Exide will shortly launch a few new batteries for commercial vehicles this fiscal, he informed.
