KOCHI, March 6

QATAR Airways launched its fourth destination in India on Thursday with the inaugural flight from Doha to Kochi International Airport at nearby Nedumbassery.

On the commencement of the operations, Mr Al Baker, CEO of Qatar Airways, in a message said: "This is an exciting event for Qatar Airways as we seek to introduce more premium standards of airline customer service to India. Our flights to Kochi will also increase the access that foreign tourists have to the natural beauty of Kerala.''

The large expatriate Indian community in the Gulf region would be further benefited from this new service, he said, adding that they could now avail themselves of high standards of customer service, new aircraft with latest inflight amenities and convenient connections from Doha to Europe and other destinations in the Gulf.

Qatar Airways now flies to India 19 times a week with flights to Mumbai, Hyderabad, Thiruvananthapuram and now Kochi. All these flights including the one to Kochi have all been planned with convenient connections at Doha from the rest of the Gulf. The flight to Kochi will leave in the early morning from Doha on Thursdays, Fridays and Sundays, Mr Saeed Parkar, Regional Manager (India), said.

There were 123 and 212 passengers in the opening flights from Doha and towards Doha respectively on the first day of the operations, he said.

The Qatar Airways Regional Manager for the Arabian Peninsula, Iran and the CIS headed the official delegation that accompanied the flight, which was received by the Mayor of Kochi, Mr Dinesh Mani, The Managing Director of CIAL, Mr V.J. Kurien, and film star Mammooty.
