General Insurance IRDA allows surveyors to shift depts C.R. Sukumar
HYDERABAD, March 6 IN a significant development, the Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority (IRDA) has decided to permit licensed surveyors to shift their department, however, with the approval of the regulator. IRDA in its latest communiqué said the licensed surveyors, who qualified for categorisation in more than three departments, but were required to choose only three departments, would now be permitted to submit their request for the consideration of the Authority for change of department of their choice. However, the changeover requests would be entertained only till the end of current fiscal year and subsequent changes from time-to-time would not be permitted, the regulator said. Those licensed and categorised surveyors who were categorised for less than three departments and want to be categorised for additional department not exceeding three departments would be categorised for `C' category in that additional department. However, this depends on whether the surveyor has undergone the training for that department as on March 31, 2003. It is also subject to the surveyor submitting an affidavit duly signed by him and the trainer surveyor and notarised. The surveyors who have not undergone training as on March 31, 2003 would be required to pass the examination to be eligible for `C' categorisation in the additional department. In case of those surveyors who were holding an engineering degree in any discipline and not categorised for motor department would now be permitted to qualify for categorisation in the motor department subject to passing an examination of the subject. The regulator has also decided to extend the validity period of provisionally categorised surveyors bearing Serial No 1 to 526 from March 31, 2003 to June 1, 2003. According to IRDA, this extension was aimed at enabling these surveyors to appear in the examination to be conducted by the Insurance Institute of India in the ensuing period. Stating that the application form for insurance surveyors examination was placed on the Web site to be downloaded, the regulator said the examination would be held on May 11, 25 and June 1. The last date for submission of application forms to the Insurance Institute of India, Mumbai, was fixed as March 31, 2003.
