Performance Tata Engg clocks 25 pc rise in sales Our Bureau
MUMBAI, March 6 TATA Engineering on Thursday reported a 25.3 per cent increase in total vehicle sales, at 185,428 units, for the April 2002-February 2003 period. Cumulative sales of commercial vehicles by end-February was up 34 per cent at 95,431 units. M&HCV sales stood higher by 35.3 per cent at 66,005 units while that of LCVs grew 31.3 per cent to 29,426 units, an official statement said. Total sale of passenger vehicles for the period was up 17 per cent at 89,997 units, surpassing the corresponding figure for the whole of 2001-2002. Overall industry market share is pegged at 14.5 per cent (year-ago share being 12.8 per cent). Sales of the Indica totalled 64,310 units, a growth of 16.4 per cent and an estimated market share of 24.2 per cent in the compact `B' segment. Utility vehicle sales for the fiscal so far touched 21,303 units and market share was at 22 per cent, albeit with a flat growth trend. For February 2003, the company's total sales grew by 20.8 per cent to 20,152 units. Commercial vehicle sales rose by 46.1 per cent to 11,272 units (7,715 units), including a 65 per cent growth in M&HCV sales to 8,208 units. Passenger vehicle sales for February aggregated 8,880 units, one per cent lower than the corresponding previous period. The Indigo sold 1,772 units, continuing its leadership position in the mid-size `C' segment for the second month running, the statement said. Its market share rose to 29 per cent from 27 per cent of January 2003. Indica sales for the month was at 5,030 units while that of UVs stood at 2,078 units, it added.
