No plan to delay date of VAT

KOLKATA, March 7

DR Asim Dasgupta, West Bengal Finance Minister and also the Chairman of the Empowered Committee on VAT, made it clear here today that there was no proposal to defer the date of the implementation of the State-level VAT from April 1, 2003.

"The decision to enforce it from April 1 is firm and final'', he said. The report in a section of newspapers about the probable delay in the implementation of VAT had created some confusion, he said.
