Chamber flays Delhi Master Plan proposals
Our Bureau
NEW DELHI, March 7
THE PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PHDCCI) has criticised the proposal of regularising non-conforming and non-polluting industries in 24 residential colonies in Delhi which have over 70 per cent units engaged in industrial activities.
The Chamber, in a press release issued on Thursday, has said that it is strictly against the Master Plan and feels that it would only lead to further congestion and chaos in the national capital.
"The Government's focus should instead be on improving infrastructure in the approved industrial areas and on expediting the development of new industrial areas. The growth of unplanned industrial activity in the residential areas has been the result of poor implementation of the Master Plan and lack of alternative sites for relocation of industries," the release said.
PHDCCI suggested that alternately the fully developed industrial pockets in Delhi where unplanned industrial growth has taken place and which are not residential in the Master Plan, should be regularised as industrial areas with provision of requisite infrastructure. A feasibility study for such areas may be undertaken for the purpose.
