Germany keen to boost trade ties

HYDERABAD, March 7

THE President of Federal Republic of Germany, Dr Johannes Rau, has urged the captains of industry to strengthen the existing bridges of business between Germany and India as they offer untapped potential.

One of the decisive concepts to describe the rapid development and the social change that can be perceived here is information technology (IT), he said.

Speaking at a banquet organised by the Indo-German Chamber of Commerce, he said, `I and my wife are deeply moved by the impressions we have had of the country as also Andhra Pradesh. Yet we do not want to close our eyes to the enormous problems that the country has to surmount."

The President said that he was impressed by the potential and the promise the country holds, with its greatest asset being its people. "I am pleased to say India has lot of friends in Germany. But I feel that it is not good enough. All the members of my delegation are deeply moved by the hospitality. While I do not want to bore you with statistics on investments, I invite you all to reinforce the bridges between the two countries".

Earlier, the President of Indo-German Chamber of Commerce, Mr Atul Bhagwati, said that most of the 600 Indo-German joint ventures were doing extremely well. However, "we are obviously suffering from information gap that is impacting the potential of investment in India. Therefore, the chamber has taken upon itself the need to focus on boosting business ties".

The President and Chief Executive Officer of KoelnMesse, Mr Jochenwitt, said, "We are in India to explore new markets." Trade fair is the best way to build business relations between countries as also explore business opportunities.
