Exporters told to meet textile target

Our Bureau

NEW DELHI, March 7

EVEN as the latest export trends are encouraging, textile exports from the country are expected to fall short of the targeted $15 billion for 2002-03 by about $2 billion.

In this backdrop, the Union Textiles Minister, Mr Kashiram Rana, has urged export promotion councils (EPCs) under the Textiles Ministry to make extra efforts for "full realisation" of the export targets fixed for the year.

Addressing the Chiefs of EPCs, Mr Rana also said that the "Budget proposals would bring down the costs of textiles across the board making them more affordable to the consumers, propel the demand, enthuse the manufacturing activities and thus prepare the industry for global competition".
