Army, JobsAhead tie up to place retired servicemen

Our Bureau

NEW DELHI, March 7

IN an effort to place its retired personnel in the corporate world, the Directorate-General, Resettlement (DGR), which takes care of the resettlement of ex-servicemen, has tied with up online HR search company, JobsAhead.com. This tie-up would enable the industry to access the capabilities of the Army's pool of servicemen.

Speaking to Business Line, Mr Puneet Dalmia, CEO, JobsAhead, said: "The Army has a talented and qualified pool of manpower with exceptional skills which the Indian industry is either not aware of or they don't know how to use. Through this tie-up, we are going to create an awareness in the corporate world about the capabilities of Army personnel."

He added that JobsAhead would take care of marketing and the technology part of the initiative.

"The database of ex-servicemen would be exclusive to JobsAhead, and around 6,000 companies which have registered with us can make use of it free of cost."

A chunk of the marketing exercise would include organising seminars with the help of various chambers of commerce and industry across the country.

According to Mr Dalmia, the Web site would also offer a number of value-added services to the DGR, such as presenting the CVs of its personnel in an impressive way so that it instantly catches the attention of corporates.

Listing out the various talent skills of the Army personnel, Mr Dalmia said, "Apart from offering administrative and security services, the Army personnel are also trained in a gamut of other areas such as telecom and project management and offer excellent services to the Indian industry."

Major General V.S. Budhwar of the DGR said that a number of initiatives have been taken to make their personnel capable to face the industry after completing their tenure.

This includes two years industrial training to the personnel before retirement.

"Apart from this, we are also in talks with the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad, to offer a six-month diploma course in business management to our personnel," he said.

"A number of corporates such as Reliance, L&T, Jet Airways and ONGC have already benefited enormously from our talent pool, and we hope to generate at least 20,000 jobs for our personnel each year through this tie-up with JobsAhead," he added.
