Sansui expects World Cup to drive colour TV sales

Our Bureau

NEW DELHI, March 14

SANSUI India, the Indian arm of Japanese firm, Sansui Electric Co Ltd, is targeting to sell over 2.5 lakh colour TVs during this World Cup.

"We have cleared almost 60 per cent of our inventory. Our consumer offer this time has really helped sales. If India puts up a good show and goes on to reach the semi-finals then the market is just going to grow. Instead of just thinking about increasing the market share we are trying to capture the expanded market, which will eventually increase our share in the pie. We expect our all India current market share of 9 per cent to reach 10 per cent," Mr Anil Khera, COO & Vice-President, Sansui India, said.

During the World Cup period so far, the company claims its secondary TV sales have gone up by 50-60 per cent.

For the current financial year, Sansui plans to sell 6.5 lakh TV sets across India and is targeting a turnover of Rs 750 crore, an increase of 33 per cent over last year.

Meanwhile in keeping with the market trends, Sansui had launched a sound-oriented model with 1500 watts PMPO sound output with detachable front speaker grills. The company has priced the model at Rs 18,900. "We have launched five new models during this World Cup- they are in 21" flat and 21" conventional category and one in the 29" category," Mr Khera said. The company is planning to introduce a projection TV and a Plasma TV soon.
