Safeguard probe on Bisphenol imports

K.R. Srivats

NEW DELHI: The Director-General (Safeguards) has initiated an investigation into imports of the industrial chemical, Bisphenol A.

The Government can impose a safeguard duty on an article if it is imported in quantities and conditions that may threaten to cause "serious injury" to domestic industry.

Official sources said Bisphenol A, a building block used as a monomer for the production of epoxy resins and polycarbonate plastics, is being mainly imported from 11 countries.
