Dakshina Kannada banks provide loans to 1,872

MANGALORE, March 20

BANKS in the Dakshina Kannada district of Karnataka have assisted 1,872 people under various subsidy-linked self-employment schemes, according to an estimate made here.

At a review committee meeting organised by Syndicate Bank, the lead bank of the district, it was estimated that during the year 2002-03, banks financed 410 people under the Prime Minister's Rozgar Yojana involving bank credit of Rs. 2.81 crore.

Also, under the Self-Employment Programme of the Karnataka Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes Corporation, banks have financed 246 people with loans of Rs. 40.26 lakh. Under the Swavalambana scheme meant for people belonging to the minority communities given through the Karnataka Minority Development Corporation, the banks have financed 294 people. Under the Chaitanya scheme of the Karnataka Backward Class Corporation, 321 people were assisted. Under the Udyogini scheme of the Women Development Corporation, 62 women have been assisted to the tune of Rs. 19.66 lakh.
