Suguna foray into Nepal

G. Gurumurthy

THE Rs 400-crore Suguna poultry group has entered into a joint venture poultry feed manufacture project in Nepal. The investment for the project, estimated at Rs 4.10 crore with a 2,500-tonne per month feed production capacity, has already been approved by the Nepal Government, according to the group sources.

The Kathmandu-based company Probiotech Ltd is the co-promoter of the joint venture feed company, Sakthi Agro Mills Pvt Ltd in which Suguna will share evenly Rs 2.20 crore equity. The latter will extend its know-how in poultry feed production including the needed machinery and feed marketing. The feed would be entirely marketed within Nepal targeting the broiler and layer farms there.

Nepal's poultry production accounts for a weekly placement (production) of some five lakh broilers and 1.5 lakh layers and the joint venture has sought to stake initially about 10 per cent of the market share there. The implementation of the joint venture is already on and the commercial production is expected to begin in September this year. — GGM
