Truck, bus tyre production up in Jan

NEW DELHI, March 20

TRUCK and bus tyre production continued to show robust performance in January, with the segment registering a production level of 8.69 lakh tyres in that month.

This performance was just short of the best production performance recorded so far (8.70 lakh tyres recorded in December 2002) in the current fiscal year 2002-03. Truck and bus tyre production in January 2002 stood at 6.96 lakh tyres.

Exports of truck and bus tyres during January stood at 2.09 lakh tyres, the best performance so far in the current fiscal. Export performance in this segment during December 2002 stood at two lakh tyres. Truck and bus tyres accounted for more than 70 per cent of the turnover of the domestic tyre industry.

According to the latest data released by the Automotive Tyre Manufacturers' Association (ATMA), passenger car tyre production in the month of January 2003 stood at 7.62 lakh tyres as against production performance of 6.40 lakh tyres in the same month during the previous year. The production performance of light truck tyre also registered improvement at 2.68 lakh tyres on January as against 2.01 lakh tyres in January 2002.
