Our Bureau

AHMEDABAD, March 26

THE Gujarat Assembly on Wednesday pushed through as many as seven Bills in a jiffy and then suspended the entire Opposition for creating bedlam in the Assembly.

The well of the House witnessed unruly scenes as the Opposition demanded a CBI inquiry into the murder of Mr Haren Pandya, former Minister of State for Home in the Keshubhai Patel Ministry and former Minister of State for Revenue in the Narendra Modi Ministry, earlier in the day.

Mr Pandya was shot dead by two unidentified gunmen near his residence in Ahmedabad at around 7.45 a.m. following which a red alert was declared in the business capital of the State. The funeral of Mr Pandya, set for Thursday morning, will coincide with a State-wide bandh called by the Congress Party.

Later, the Home Secretary, Mr K. Nithyanandam, said the State Government had requested the Centre for a CBI probe into Mr Pandya's killing.
