THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Kerala Tourism Development Corporation has entered into a deal with Mandara Spa to develop a world class Ayurvedic spa in one of the resorts run by the corporation.

The deal was struck during the recent International Tourism Festival in Berlin.

Mandara Spa is specialised in developing and maintaining spas and run a series of hotels in Indonesia. It is also running a spa in Taj Maldives.

According to Ms Padmaja Venugopal, Chairperson of KTDC, noted tour operators from various countries evinced interest during ITB in having business tie-ups with KTDC hotels. One of the significant developments was the understanding with Gateway SRL, Milan, a leading tour operator in Italy, she said.

Gateway SRL operates chartered flights to Maldives in large numbers, apart from sending groups of Italian tourists to Sri Lanka and the East Asia.

Ms Padmaja Venugopal said KTDC had extensive discussions with Mr Dias Jayasinha, Chairman of Gateway SRL, to reach a business tie-up whereby Gateway SRL would book rooms in the premium hotels of KTDC. Once the commercial terms are finalised, the arrangement would ensure flow of large numbers of Italian tourists to Kerala.

The tie-up was expected to result in more than 11,000 room bookings in KTDC hotels in the coming financial year, she said.

KTDC has also had discussions with Air India officials on offering special packages to tourists coming to KTDC hotels, she added.

At ITB, the corporation showcased the network of its premium properties such as Hotel Samudra, Kovalam, Waterscapes, Kumarakom, Tea County, Munnar, and Bolgatty Palace, Kochi.
