NEW DELHI, March 26 INDIA has announced its willingness to grant duty-free access to Bangladesh products on 39 tariff lines, besides agreeing to consider further duty-free concessions under the framework of a bilateral free trade arrangement. This emerged at the India-Bangladesh Commerce Secretary level talks with the Indian side led by the Commerce Secretary, Mr Dipak Chatterjee, and the Secretary, Ministry of Commerce, Bangladesh, Mr Suhel Ahmed Chowdhury. Bangladesh has agreed to initiate discussion on a free trade arrangement, according to an official release issued at the end of the two-day talks here, which were preceded by Joint Secretary level talks on March 23. New Delhi announced its willingness to grant duty-free access to Bangladesh products on 39 tariff lines which include 11 out of the 121 tariff lines from a request list of 2002 and 28 out of 191 tariff lines from an earlier list from Bangladesh. Both sides also set up a Joint Working Group to look into complaints of non-tariff and para-tariff barriers from either side and take steps to correct them. They also agreed on a common list of land customs station on the India-Bangladesh border and agreed on a time schedule to improve their infrastructure facilities. They further noted that India and Bangladesh would conclude a bilateral protection and promotion agreement in the near future.
