NEW DELHI, March 26

THE Department of Commerce in collaboration with Unctad is organising a national seminar on `WTO negotiations on regional trading arrangements (RTAs)' in the Capital on March 27-28.

An official release said that negotiations, under the Doha work programme, are currently under way in the WTO to improve and clarify disciplines and procedures concerning RTAs. There has been an exponential growth of RTAs during the last decade.

As on October 2002, 255 RTAs have been notified to the WTO and this number is estimated to reach up to 300 by the end of 2005. Almost 60 per cent of global trade is channelled through RTAs.
