Airlines Malaysian Airlines to have more links Tunia Cherian George
MUMBAI, March 26 MALAYSIAN Airlines is looking at flying to more destinations in India. Under its expansion plans, the airline is also keen to increase the frequencies to its existing destinations, namely Mumbai, Bangalore and Hyderabad, according to the Regional Manager, South Asia, Mr Syed Abdillah Aziz. Earlier this year, Malaysian Airlines had received permission to increase its frequencies to Hyderabad from a weekly flight to three times a week. It has also received permission to operate two additional flights a week to Mumbai and one additional weekly flight to Bangalore. Mr Aziz told Business Line that the sheer number of passengers travelling in and out of the country made the Indian market important for the airline. Malaysian Airlines has identified India along with China and West Asia as important markets for it, he said. The airline was particularly keen on exploiting the potential for inbound traffic into the country, given its varied tourist attractions. The Showcase Malaysia package offered by Malaysian Airlines has proved popular in the country. It has helped boost passenger loads during the lean period extending from January to April, Mr Aziz said. The programme entitles any two individuals flying by the airline between January 5 and May 29, four days and three nights complimentary at a choice of over 30 hotels and resorts spread across Malaysia. Tickets under the programme should, however, be purchased by March 31. In line with the importance it attaches to its operations in India, the airline is in the process of recruiting 100 cabin crew from the country, who would undergo training in Malaysia.
