HYDERABAD, April 14

BBL Publications, the city-based information provider for the student community, has announced the launch of its publications - directories on `Engineering Colleges in Andhra Pradesh' and `Medical-Dental Education in Andhra Pradesh and South India' - here on Monday.

In a release here, the Editor of BBL Publications, Mr C.V. Siva Prasad Rao, said their organisation had earlier unveiled its educational news and information portals - www.apecinfo.com and www.medistudies.com - for providing information on engineering education, medical and dental education in the State and country, respectively.

According to Mr Rao, the number of institutes offering education in engineering and medical segments registered a phenomenal growth in the last eight years in the State. As against 37 engineering colleges with 10,445 seats in 1995, the State currently has 216 colleges with 62,500 seats.

It was further estimated that the total number of engineering colleges in the State would go up to 230 with 70,000 seats by the counselling date of 2003 Engineering and Medical Common Entrance Test (EAMCET).

The portal on engineering education would provide information on institutions not only in the State but also across the country. It also provides information for the non-resident Indians (NRIs) to pursue engineering course in reputed institutions across the country. In a bid to reach more NRIs, the organisation has linked its portal with various Telugu People's Associations and other Indian associations.

In the case of medical and dental education, the State that earlier offered 1,500 medical seats through 11 colleges and 80 dental seats with two colleges in 1996, has now added additional 10 medical colleges (nine private and one Government) with 1,500 seats and 11 private dental colleges with 960 seats.

BBL Publications offers information on 21 medical and 13 dental colleges in Andhra Pradesh and nearly 230 medical and 168 dental colleges across the country.

Apart from the information on medical and dental education, the portal offers details on Ayurveda, Homeopathy, Unani and agricultural education in the State and country, Mr Rao said.
