New Projects Eppendorf plans subsidiary in India Our Bureau
BANGALORE April 14 IN a bid to tap the growing biotech market in India, Eppendorf AG, the Hamburg-based biotechnology system supplier, is setting up wholly-owned subsidiary in the country. Based in Chennai, Eppendorf India Ltd would initially look after the marketing activities of the German bio-tech major in India, said the company spokesperson, Mr Joern Peplow here "The Indian market, which is of significant size, holds a major potential for us" he said adding that the company intends to target the burgeoning scientific and research community in the country with its systems and research tools for the biotech industry. While declining to comment on the company's investment plans for its Indian subsidiary, he said "We are ready to invest as the market here opens up". Eppendorf India is officially being launched on April 16 here as Bio 2003. Eppendorf is the event sponsor of Bangalore Bio 2003, Asia's premier International biotech tradeshow, slated to being on Tuesday. "We are initially introducing our research instruments, consumables and the bio-reagents in the Indian market," he said. Eppendorf, a known brand in biotech research tools, reported a turnover of over 297 million euros for 2002.
