International Travel Marketing - Promotions & Offers SOTC Aussie package for cricket fans Ashwini Phadnis
NEW DELHI, April 18 AFTER cheering the Indian cricket team to the finals of the World Cup and enjoying a safari in South Africa, it is now time to pack your bags to wave the Indian tricolour at the cricket grounds in Australia while enjoying the sights and sounds down under. In an effort to offer fans a chance to watch Indian cricketers battle it out in Australia, SOTC plans to launch packages for both the corporate sector for offer to personnel as an incentive and also for individuals wanting to travel down under to watch the `Men in Blue' in action. The national cricket team will be travelling to Australia in December to play three five-day tests with Australia and also to take part in several one-day internationals. Apart from India and Australia, Zimbabwe is also to take part in the one-day international series. "The packages will be launched by July. A typical package will offer a traveller five days in Australia during which time, apart from watching cricket, he/she will also be taken for local sightseeing," the Vice-President, Special Interest Tours, SOTC, Mr Rajiv Duggal, told Business Line. Besides, if the traveller wants, he/she can also seek an extension of the tour to travel to other parts of Australia or go for a hot air balloon ride or climb the Sydney Bridge by paying a bit extra. While the exact pricing of the package is being worked out, officials indicated that the minimum price of a five-night package including airfare, hotel, breakfast and airport transfers would be in the range of about Rs 60,000. However, cricket is not the only sport that the company is focussing on. To woo the tennis fans, SOTC is to offer special two-day packages for the entire duration of Wimbledon with sightseeing in London being offered alongside. Besides, the company is also promoting golfing holidays and Formula-1 racing in a big way. Now the Indian traveller has yet another option of enjoying a holiday by watching Formula-1cars race by or watching Sachin hammer the Aussies.
