Truckers' stir uncalled for, says CII

Our Bureau

NEW DELHI, April 19

THE Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) on Saturday expressed deep concern and apprehension at the nationwide strike called by the All-India Motor Transport Congress (AIMTC).

"The strike is most unfortunate, undemocratic and uncalled for, which has come immediately after the confusion on the implementation of the value added tax (VAT). At a time when the manufacturing industry has started looking up and all attempts should be made towards oiling the process of growth, unfortunately the truckers strike has completely paralysed the manufacturing sector by disrupting the distribution chain across the country," the CII said in a statement.

The manufacturing sector was forced to stop production in the absence of raw material. Industry was also not able to move out the finished goods to distributors and suppliers, which was resulting in piling up of inventories of finished goods, the statement pointed out.
