ESPN, Star Sports stop services to InCablenet

Our Bureau

MUMBAI, April 19

ESPN and STAR Sports services to InCablenet in Mumbai have been discontinued due to an outstanding of over Rs 2 crore, according to a news release.

Indus Ind Media and Communications Ltd (IMC), a subsidiary of Hinduja TMT, has failed to pay routine monthly dues for the four-month period of January-April 2003 to ESPN Software (I) Pvt Ltd, but has continued to collect money from its affiliates and subscribers.

It has also not renewed its contracts with ESPN Software (I) Pvt Ltd for Nagpur, Nasik, Ahmedabad, Vadodra, and Indore, leading to non-availability of ESPN and STAR Sports services in these cities as well, the release added.

"During the TVS Cup cricket series, we were left with no option but to inform the viewers that the channels were likely to be switched off if the dues are not cleared by IMC," Mr Sricharan Iyengar, Vice-President, Affiliate Sales of ESPN Software, was quoted as saying.

"Our repeated efforts have only resulted in receiving a very minor part payment."

ESPN and STAR Sports services to other subscribers in Mumbai - Hathaway, Siticable, Seven Star and independent affiliates - are not affected, the release added.
