Tourism Health tourism is the current fad Our Bureau
BANGALORE, May 10 THE middle-income group in the country takes domestic holidays at least twice a year, with a South-East Asian vacation thrown in once in 3-4 years. This was one of the outcomes of a survey undertaken by RCI India Pvt Ltd. This study, done on RCI's 500 heavy user member families across the country also reveals that vacation ownership is now being sought by CEOs of large MNCs. Out of the 500 people surveyed, 37 per cent preferred holidays in wildlife sanctuaries, 26 per cent in hill stations and 21 per cent on beaches. Another interesting trend that is fast catching up in the country is health tourism, with 12 per cent of those surveyed saying that they preferred health resorts as their vacation destinations. Favourite destinations abroad are Orlando and Las Vegas, with Australia and South Africa emerging as the latest favourites. Within India, Rajasthan was voted as the destination of choice. Other hill stations that got a mention were Himachal Pradesh, Garhwal, Ooty, Kodai, Munnar and Coorg. Goa and Puri beaches are the popular beach resorts that RCI members preferred. Shopping topped the list of favourite holiday activities of RCI members while some preferred to sight see, trek and swim. Among the vacation owners, it was found that 49 per cent of them belonged to age group 36 - 50 years and 26 per cent in the 51 - 60 years.
