NEW DELHI, May 10

IF you purchase an air ticket 30 days in advance on Jet Airways you can save huge amounts of money. Jet Airways has announced details of its `Super Apex' scheme that allows a passenger to fly from Delhi to Chennai at Rs 3,600 while a flight between Delhi-Bangalore will cost Rs 4,700.

The new scheme will only be valid for travel in economy class. Currently, the airline charges Rs 4,555 for travel on the Delhi-Chennai sector under the apex scheme for which a ticket has to be booked 15 days in advance. A normal one-way ticket on the Delhi-Chennai sector costs Rs 11,215.

The airline Chairman, Mr Naresh Goyal, had announced the launch of the scheme on May 5, as part of the 10th year birthday celebration of the airline. At that time, airline officials had said the details of `Super Apex' were being worked out and would be announced at a later date.

To avail of the new scheme, which is on offer on 54 sectors between June 16 and November 15, 2003, a passenger has to book at least 30 days before the start of the journey. However, if a passenger decides to cancel his travel plans 30 days prior to the start of journey, they will have to pay 50 per cent of the basic fare.

Besides, a passenger has to give a firm date of travel at the time when the booking is being made and the airline will not issue any `open tickets' under the scheme.

Among the other sectors where the `Super Apex' scheme is available, include Delhi-Mumbai at Rs 3,400, Mumbai-Thiruvananthapuram Rs 3,000, Delhi-Hyderabad Rs 4,000, Mumbai-Kochi Rs 2,360 and Delhi-Thiruvananthapuram Rs 5,610. The Super Apex fares were also available in the return direction, officials said.

Meanwhile, the state-owned Indian Airlines (IA) is expected to announce its own scheme to woo the air traveller within the next few days. IA sources indicated that the airline is likely to follow a different route to attract more passengers.
