HYDERABAD, May 10

THE Tirupati-Pakala-Katpadi railway gauge conversion project, which is likely to ease the North-South rail traffic density would be ready soon.

According to the Union Minister of State for Railways, Mr Bandaru Dattatreya, the project would cut the distance by about 55 km. "Works are going on the line," he told presspersons here.

"The new route allows introduction of direct trains to Bangalore and Kerala from Tirupati. Also, all the South-bound trains will be benefited," he said. The Minister said that Rs 50 crore has been sanctioned for the electrification of the route.
