The Hindu Business Line : Data Access starts US operations

DATA ACCESS America Inc, the wholly-owned subsidiary of Data Access (India) Ltd has announced operations in the US with plans for rapid expansion into Mexico and Latin America. Data Access is the first South Asian carrier to launch ILD services in the US.

According to an official statement, the company's New York switch facility which obtained a 214-carrier licence in December 2002, has become fully functional in a span of five months. It currently carries 4 million minutes per day using VocalTec's carrier grade equipment. The switch is interconnected with Data Access' global network and is delivering traffic to 230 countries around the world.

The switching centre facility, with capacity to handle 15 billion minutes of traffic per year, supports both TDM and IP voice traffic.

The Data Access global network consists of nine network operating centres (NOCs) around the globe and is cumulatively capable of carrying 10 billion minutes of traffic a year. The majority of international long distance calls sent over this network is not passed to other carriers and, therefore, remain "on net."
