Water Trade centre sets up water recycling plant Our Bureau
HYDERABAD, May 27 THE severe water shortage facing Hyderabad and Secunderabad seems to have motivated a hospitality-cum-trade centre in the city to take up a practical step, that not just intends to judiciously use water, but also recycle it. And in the bargain, save precious water. A 70,000-litre sewerage treatment plant and water recycling system has been operationalised at the Aditya Trade Centre-cum hotel by the city-based Manjeera group at an investment of about Rs 50 lakh, according to Mr G. Yoganand, Managing Director. The projected consumption of water in the complex, which houses a hotel, a trade centre and a shopping mall, is of the order of 60,000-70,0000 litres. "By implementing the sewerage treatment plant, we estimate an annual saving of water to the tune of about 25 million litres," Mr Yoganand told Business Line. The used water from the complex is chemically treated through the sewerage treatment plant and collected in separate water sumps and a designated overhead water tank. "This treated and recycled water would be used for flushing of toilets, landscaping and for plants. Trial runs for the plant have been conducted," he said. Mr Yoganand, who is also General Secretary of the Builders Forum, said that the running costs of the treatment plant would be more or less that of the commercial tariff for supply of water by the Hyderabad Metro Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB). According to him, the forum has been initiating projects to conserve water and eco-conservation, in addition to promoting rainwater harvesting in collaboration with Government departments, HMWSSB and the Municipal Corporation of Hyderabad (MCH). It has implemented the revival of the `Lotus Pond' at Banjara Hills as an eco-friendly project.
