Expo in Malaysia to showcase Indian products

Our Bureau

HYDERABAD, May 27

IN a bid to tap the `Persons of Indian Origin' (PIO) living in Malaysia, the Global Organisation of Persons of Indian Origin (GOPIO) is planning to hold an `International Indian Trade Fair-2003' to showcase ethnic Indian products such as handicrafts, textiles, spices, sarees and packed foods at Kuala Lumpur.

Scheduled to be held from July 5 to July 27, the expo is expected to attract over 3 lakh Indian, Malaysian and international businessmen and customers.

GOPIO has roped in its authorised agent in Hyderabad, SKAB Impex, to hold the three-week expo.

According to Mr Anil Bhardwaj of SKAB Impex, 14 per cent of 22 million people in Malaysia are Indians.

Notwithstanding the recent episodes of ill treatment meted out to Indian IT professionals, the expo would attract a large number of visitors, considering the vast Indian diaspora in the Malay Archipelago, the release added. The organisers have announced a Rs 1-lakh package for exhibitors. It includes stall rent, airfare and accommodation.
