Thiruvananthapuram, Aug. 24 General Motors India is in the process of expanding its dealer and service network. By the end of this year, the company plans to have 114 sales points and 120 service centres across the country, said Mr P. Balendran, Vice-President, General Motors India.

The company currently has 95 sales points and 97 service centres, he added. Meanwhile, the company has unveiled ‘Chevrolet Promise’ a new maintenance-related initiative.

The scheme is based on the commitment that—over a three-year period or 45,000 kilometres, whichever is earlier—if the total cost of maintenance exceeds a fixed amount, customers may claim a refund of the excess amount, said Mr Ankush Arora, Vice-President, Marketing, General Motors India.

Maintenance Costs

Under the scheme, which is open to all new customers of General Motors India, total maintenance costs over three years or 45,000 kilometres have been fixed for several of the company’s car models.

For example, the total cost of maintenance of a Chevrolet Spark over three years or 45,000 kilometres has been fixed at Rs 12,999. If a customer’s total maintenance costs exceed this amount, he can claim a refund from the company, Mr Arora explained.

However, the scheme does not cover repairs due to accidents and natural disasters, tyres, batteries, accessories, car care and detailing products, he said.

As part of the scheme, customers have to stick to regular maintenance schedules at the company’s authorised service centres. Similarly, the scheme is currently available on only five of the company’s car models. The company’s Tavera line which is currently not covered by the scheme will also be included soon, he added.

New Dealership

The company expects to start trial production at its plant in Talegaon, Maharashtra by April next year, said Mr Balendran. Commercial production from this facility, which is currently being constructed, is scheduled to begin by the last quarter of 2008, he added.
