Our Bureau

Hyderabad, Oct. 16 Sangham Radio, the country’s first rural community radio station, went on air at Machnoor village in Medak district of Andhra Pradesh.

Sangham Radio, which is also the first all-woman community radio station in Asia, was launched by former Chief Justice of India, Mr P.B. Sawant.

A release issued here said the radio is owned, managed and operated by women from marginalised rural communities.

“The radio will broadcast to a radius of 25 km covering about 100 villages and a population close to 50,000. It is facilitated by and licensed to the Deccan Development Society, an NGO working in the Zaheerabad region of Medak District,” the release added.
