New Products & Services US furniture brand Bernhardt in India Ajita Shashidhar
NEW DELHI, Jan. 8 DELHI-BASED lifestyle retail store Renaissance Homes is launching the residential collection of the 97-year-old US-based furniture company, Bernhardt. Renaissance Homes already represents a gamut of other premium American and European furniture and home décor brands such as Baker and Henredon Furniture, McGuire, Milling Road, Sligh Clocks and Furniture, Fine Art Lamps and Robert Allen Fabrics in the Indian market. This collection, which will be second in line to the Baker and Henredon Collection, will be on an average priced between Rs 70,000 and Rs 80,000. Renaissance Homes has obtained the exclusive distribution rights of this brand in India, as it has for the other brands such as Baker or McGuire. Speaking to Business Line, Ms Shaifalika Panda, Senior Vice-President, Renaissance Homes, said that though the premium imported branded furniture market is less than five per cent of the branded imported furniture market which occupies around 10 per cent of the total furniture market in India, the demand was steadily growing in its niche segments. "We have grown by almost 400 per cent since we set up shop in 2001," she said. Talking about her company's expansion plans, Ms Panda said that it was planning to set up stores in Bangalore, Chennai, Kolkata and Mumbai in the next one year. Apart from launching the residential range under the Bernhardt brand, Renaissance Homes would also be shortly launching Bernhardt's office furniture in a couple of months. Ms Panda also mentioned that the pricing of all the brands which her company represents in India was comparable to international pricing. "Our pricing is just 10-15 per cent more than the retail prices in the international retail stores," she said. Ms Panda expects a 20 per cent growth of the Indian branded furniture market this year.
