Mr Kumar Malavalli
BANGALORE, Feb. 25 MR Kumar Malavalli, storage networking guru and co-founder and advisor of Brocade Communications Inc, and Dr Mihir Parikh, founder of Asyst Technologies Inc, have become the first Indian Americans to be inducted into the prestigious Silicon Valley Engineering Hall of Fame. Dr Sam David Haddad, Chair of SVEC Hall of Fame Committee, and a Consulting Professor at Stanford University, announced the induction of these engineers at a function on February 21. Dr Sung-Mo "Steve" Kang, President of SVEC, presented the citation. The Stanford University President, Mr John Hennessy, was the recipient of the award in 2002. The award recognises engineers/technologists within the Silicon Valley region, who have demonstrated outstanding professional achievement and have made significant contributions to Silicon Valley and the Greater Bay Area communities. Mr Malavalli and Dr Parikh were joined by Mr Roy L. Clay Sr., a key figure in the development of Hewlett Packard's computer division. The event, held at the Santa Clara Marriot, was attended by the engineering community from the Silicon Valley and Greater Bay Area. After receiving the citation, Mr Kumar said, "this prestigious honour bestowed up on me, not only recognises my contribution in the area of storage networking, but also validates the support that I received from all the individuals and the organisations in making the unique journey to get here." Stalwarts of Indus Entrepreneurs (TiE), the global organisation of Indian entrepreneurs, were also present on the occasion. Its immediate past president, Dr Kailash Joshi, current President, Mr Sridar Iyengar, and Tiecon Chair, Mr Vish Mishra, were among those present.
