Genus Overseas files FIR over IOC fire mishap

JAIPUR: A private company has lodged an FIR with the Rajasthan Police against IOC officials for their alleged negligence causing deaths even as fire billowed from two petrol tanks on the sixth day of the devastating fire at Sitapur near here.

A case under Section 304 A of the IPC was lodged by Genus Overseas Pvt Ltd (Electronic and Instrument) Manager Mr P.S. Khurana with the Sanganer Sadar police station, the IGP, Mr I.B.L. Soni, said.

The inferno has so far claimed 12 lives, he said.

About a dozen complaints have been lodged against IOC by victims’ relatives and private companies, the IGP said, adding the SHO Sadar Police has been asked to take up the cases for investigation.

Two IOC tanks, from which smoke was emanating, have about 6 feet and 10 feet of petrol to burn and this could be over by Wednesday, Chief Fire Officer Ishwarlal Jat told PTI.

Residents living in the five-km periphery of the IOC depot have been complaining of itching, skin allergies, suffocation and burning of eyes, and scores of them reported to hospitals in the last two days, official sources said.

When contacted, the Rajasthan Health Minister, Mr A.A. Khan, said eye and skin experts have been mobilised in villages near the fire site. He also refuted reports of death being caused by harmful gases. — PTI
