CHENNAI, Feb. 25

THE management of Dunlop India Ltd has made an initial payment of Rs. 2,000 per worker at its recently reopened Ambattur facility, according to union sources.

More than 2,000 workers have received the initial payment following lifting of the two-year suspension of operations on February 7. Meanwhile, the company has started maintenance work at its facility, and it is likely to be completed in four weeks, said management sources.

Currently, 540 workers are involved in the maintenance operations, and the others have been asked to report for duty on February 28 and March 7. Once the statutory inspections and clearances are obtained, a clear schedule of operations will emerge, said sources.
