Linux meet inaugurated

BANGALORE, Feb. 25

BANG!INUX, India's largest-ever Linux conference and expo was inaugurated here on Friday. The conference will feature interactive sessions with Linux gurus from around the world, local experts as well as Linux community stars such as Mr. Richard Stallman and Mr. Nat Friedman.

The event, comprising two conference tracks to cater to all the interest in GNU software, Linux and related technologies such as Apache Web server, PHP and Perl programming language. While the beginners track is designed for first-time users looking for more information on how to get the most out of GNU/Linux, the professional track is for serious users and will showcase cutting-edge developments in GNU/Linux. About 2,000 users are expected to participate in the two-day conference.

The event, organised by Wrox India Pvt Ltd, is sponsored by Europe's largest Linux distributor SuSE, Red Hat, a USLinux distributor and Rediff.com. The other sponsors include Oracle, Ampersand Info Tech of Delhi and Questionable Ventures of Pune.

Inaugurating the event, Karnataka's former IT Secretary, Mr. Sanjoy Das Gupta, said: ``The State Government has recognised the importance of Linux as a operating system and has introduced it as a compulsory subject in all the 78 engineering colleges.''
