Indian Register of Shipping opens office in Dubai

ABU DHABI, Feb. 25

THE Indian Register of Shipping, (IRC), the ship classification society, has opened an office in Dubai this week. Capt. Anand, Chairman of IRS, said following the inauguration of the office that Dubai has always been considered a shipping hub in West Asi a and opening an office in Dubai will enable IRS to provide high quality and competitive services.

IRS has an office in Colombo and plans are on to open an office in China in a few months, he said. IRS has already started work at the Dubai Dry Docks. It provides survey of Indian ships, certification to ISO 9000, QS 9000 and the International Managemen t Code. It also facilitates third party inspection.

The total tonnage classed with IRS as on February 15 is around 7.2 million GRT (gross register tonnes), comprising over 700 ships. IRS is planning to increase its area of operation, he added.
