Our Bureau

CHENNAI, Feb. 25

DO you feel frustrated managing huge files? Try the ``File Chopper''. It splits big files into smaller files. For instance, into sizes suitable for diskettes. This program requires no unzipping or installation.

It can be run from a disk and creates a self-restoring file, that can be done from a DOS batch file. It can split files of up to 2TB.

File Chopper is controlled by switches on the command line, a feature that allows you to automate file dissections. The new version, 3.2, has full support for installing and uninstalling. It is a shareware version that runs for a 30-day trial, and costs $12 to register.

Brought out by Matex Data HB, the file size is 1.1 MB and can be downloaded in five minutes at 28.8 kbps. The minimum requirements are Windows 95/98/NT. The site is home.swipnet.se/matexdata.

Version 2.3 of the utility adds better support for Access 2000, the ability to copy passwords (when recovered) to the clipboard and fixes some small bugs. The file size is 505 KB and takes approximately two minutes to download at 28.8 kbps. The utility c an be downloaded from elcomsoft.com.
